18 Feb Virginia: SB 1230 Tabled in Committee
This week, Senate Bill 1230 was tabled by the House Committee on General Law, and is not expected to receive further consideration this year. If passed and enacted, this misguide legislation would have:
- Required additional licensing requirements and fees for retail tobacconists
- Granted authority to the ABC to require criminal background checks for all employees who “handle” tobacco products at individual businesses
- Subjected in-state distributors to costly and time-consuming registration, reporting, and record keeping requirements
- Created a market for premium tobacco trafficking in Virginia
Thank you to all IPCPR members who contacted the General Assembly to voice your concerns regarding SB 1230. We would not have been successful without your active participation.
