Virginia: Call Your Senator Regarding H.B. 2220

20 Feb Virginia: Call Your Senator Regarding H.B. 2220

Thank you to all Cigar Association of Virginia members who made calls to the Virginia Senate Rehabilitation and Social Services Committee last week regarding House Bill 2220, which establishes a mixed beverage retail cigar shop license, permitting qualified tobacconists to serve wine, beer, or mixed beverages for on-premises consumption. Your outreach made a difference! H.B. 2220 was reported favorably by the Committee. This is a huge success, but our fight is not over yet.

The full Senate will vote on H.B. 2220 early this week. YOUR state Senator could determine whether H.B. 2220 passes. It is critical that you contact your state Senator TODAY, and request support for H.B. 2220! Please CLICK HERE to identify and view contact information for your state Senator.

Utilize the following talking points for H.B. 2220 when contacting your state Senator:

  • Helps in-state retailers compete with neighboring states
  • Provides adults a place enjoy a drink and a cigar which has not been possible since the smoking ban
  • Limits licensure eligibility to only true retail tobacco shops
  • Increases sales revenue and thus the amount of taxes remitted to the state
