10 Feb Chicago: Urge the City Council to Oppose $.90 Cigar Tax
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proposed a $.90 per cigar tax that is currently pending in City Council. This measure is part of a larger package that also includes a provision to increase the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21.
On February 10, the City Council’s Finance Committee approved the measure by a 22 to 9 vote. The proposal was expected to receive a vote by the full City Council on February 10, but the vote has been delayed.
If passed and enacted, this tax increase would be devastating to retail tobacconists in Chicago. Click on the button below to contact the members of the City Council TODAY and express your opposition to a $.90 cigar tax.
