11 Feb Senate Confirms Dr. Price as HHS Secretary
Last week the United States Senate confirmed Dr. Tom Price of Georgia as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). IPCPR congratulates Dr. Price, a friend of the industry and previous co-sponsor of legislation defining and exempting premium cigars from FDA regulations in the 112th and 113th Congresses. Dr. Price has long been an advocate for the sensible role of the federal government, and has consistently recognized the burdens that regulatory overreach by HHS and the FDA place on mom and pop small businesses around the country. IPCPR looks forward to working with Dr. Price in his new role as Secretary and to continue discussing the consequences of FDA’s deeming rule for the premium cigar industry. We strongly encourage Secretary Price to review and consider suspending the rule until its total economic impact on Main Street America is truly understood.
