Maryland: Urge Legislators to Support Premium Cigar Tax Reduction

05 Feb Maryland: Urge Legislators to Support Premium Cigar Tax Reduction

House Bill 139 and Senate Bill 320 would reduce Maryland’s premium cigar tax from 15 percent to 7.5 percent. The House Ways and Means Committee will hear H.B. 139 on February 10 at 1:00 p.m. and the Senate Committee on Budget and Taxation will hear S.B. 320 on February 17 at 1:00 p.m. Maryland’s current tax burden is higher than all neighboring states. It is critical that this legislation passes to make small business retail tobacconists in Maryland competitive.
