Maryland: HB 139 and SB 320 Fail with Adjournment of General Assembly

12 Apr Maryland: HB 139 and SB 320 Fail with Adjournment of General Assembly

The Maryland General Assembly adjourned sine die on April 11, 2016. House Bill 139 and Senate Bill 320 failed upon adjournment. If passed and enacted, these companion bills would have reduced Maryland’s premium cigar tax from 15 percent to 7.5 percent. A tax reduction is an important step towards making Maryland businesses competitive with neighboring states.

Thank you to all Premium Cigar Retailers Association of Maryland (PCRAM) members who dedicated time and resources to advance this important legislation. The International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) believes that we made great strides forward this year. We look forward to continuing to work towards lessening the burden on brick and mortar retail tobacconists in Maryland next year.
