Louisiana: NOLA Considers Smoking Ban

12 Jan Louisiana: NOLA Considers Smoking Ban

Last week the New Orleans City Council held a preliminary public hearing to discuss proposed smoking ban legislation that would prohibit smoking in most businesses and public spaces across the City. No final votes were taken at this meeting; a public town hall to further discuss the ordinance is scheduled for this Wednesday, January 14. You are strongly encouraged to attend. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chamber located at 1300 Perdido Street.

As a local business owner, your input is valuable. We ask that you please take the time to call or send an email to the members of the City Council and politely remind them of the impact this legislation could have on small business owners and the IPCPR 83rd Annual Convention & International Trade Show scheduled to take place in New Orleans this year.

Over the past few months, your representatives at IPCPR have been collaborating with a coalition of businesses and associations that would be negatively impacted if this proposal is implemented. We will continue to work with the coalition and members of the City Council each week to ensure that your interests are properly represented. Stay tuned for further updates on the status of this pending legislation.
