Kentucky: Statewide Smoking Ban to Receive Floor Vote

12 Feb Kentucky: Statewide Smoking Ban to Receive Floor Vote

House Bill 145, sponsored by Representative Susan Westrom, is expected to receive a vote by the full House of Representatives as early as this week. This legislation would institute a sweeping smoking ban across the Commonwealth, including a prohibition on smoking enclosed public places and enclosed places of employment, and within 15 feet of entrances, exits, operable windows, and ventilation intakes that serve an enclosed area where smoking is prohibited.

This misguided legislation has support from Governor Steve Beshear (D), despite the fact that a heavy-handed smoking ban will place financial pressure on small business and severely limit the right of adults to enjoy a legal product. In his 2015 State of the Commonwealth address, Gov. Beshear announced that the he would once again support comprehensive, statewide smoke-free legislation. Furthermore, he stated that smoke-free policies are good for business.

It is critical to stop this bill before it reaches Gov. Beshear’s desk. Please click on the button below to contact the House of Representatives today and urge them to oppose House Bill 145!
