10 Jun Alabama: Your Participation Needed as Special Session Looms
Over the past few months, your representatives at International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) have been working diligently with members of the Alabama Tobacconist Association (ATA) to prevent a devastating other tobacco products (OTP) tax increase in Alabama, including a 200 percent tax increase on premium cigars. Last week the Alabama Legislature adjourned and the proposed tax increase failed upon adjournment.
Unfortunately our fight is not over. Governor Robert Bentley has stated that he is optimistic about reaching a budget agreement during a special session this summer to fill the state’s $700 million budget shortfall. This means that an OTP tax increase is still on the table this year.
Your participation in ATA, the official state association of IPCPR, is critical to our continued success during special session. ATA needs your help to fund their lobbyist in Montgomery to represent the interests of brick-and-mortar premium cigar and pipe shops across Alabama. Click here to join the ATA. Email Harris Saunders at email@example.com for more information.
Our partnership is critical to protecting the future of the premium tobacco industry in Alabama for generations to come. Please send this link http://www.ipcprlegislative.org/state/alabama/join-the-alabama-tobacconist-association/ to your fellow retailers and ask them to get involved.
Stay tuned for further updates on the status of budget negotiations in Alabama.
