Alabama: Governor Bentley Calls for Special Session

14 Jul Alabama: Governor Bentley Calls for Special Session

Governor Bentley announced a convening of the Legislature of Alabama beginning at 4 p.m. on July 13, 2015. This special session was called to work on budgetary issues. Under “Increase in Growth Revenue” in his proclamation, Gov. Bentley specifically recommends, “Legislation to increase the tax levied on tobacco products under Chapter 25 of Title 40 of the Code of Alabama and to create a tax to be levied upon consumable vapor products and/or e-cigarette products.” All tax bills must originate in the House, which introduced no legislation on July 13. The legislation is scheduled to reconvene on August 3, 2015.
