Administration Eases Restrictions on Cuba

Today, President Barack Obama approved a Presidential Policy Directive that eases sanctions regulations on Cuba. The changes will take effect on Monday, October 17, 2016.

How does this impact cigars?

  • Eliminates the $100 limit on the value of Cuban cigars authorized travelers may bring into the United States for personal consumption
  • Allows authorized travelers to bring Cuban-origin cigars legally acquired in countries other than Cuba into the United States for personal consumption
  • Importing Cuban cigars into the United States for purpose of re-sale remains prohibited
